On April 28th, Professor Park Seung Wook and Yoo Hong Sung of Inha University visited San Marcos National University in Lima, Peru, and met with Professor Julio Alejandro Bacalla Rooms, dean of the Department of Industrial Engineering.

Amid common interests in the field of social science, Professor Park and Yoo introduced political and economic contents included in the K-MOOC courses such as ‘Korea's Economy and Industrialization’. Accordingly, some professors showed deep interest in the course and expressed their willingness to cooperate with us when it comes to expanding the demand for Korean studies in Latin America.

At the interview on that day, the purpose and main courses of K-MOOC were explained through a promotional pamphlet designed to provide detailed information on how to access the platform and how to use the course.

Established in 1551, San Marcos National University is one of outstanding educational institutions in Latin America and currently has about 30,000 undergraduate and 3,500 graduate students. Recently, academic interest in Korean politics, economy, and society has gradually expanded beyond the Korean Wave among students here, and this change has led to an increase in potential demand for Korean studies courses.

This visit was an opportunity to confirm whether social science-based Korean studies courses can spread in Latin America or not, and it is expected that the use of K-MOOC will be further activated with the help of local faculties and students.

The K-Academic Diffusion Research Center will continue to not only expand cooperation with researchers and educational institutions in Latin America in the future, but also make efforts to strengthen the status of K-Academic across the globe.
