On June 16th, the K-Academic Diffusion Research Center at Inha University invited Professor Jeong Imsuk of University for Foreigners of Siena and Yoon Dong Ju Center for Korean Studies in Italy to hold the 7th colloquium of the 4th year under the theme of "Italian Korean Studies Trends: The Case of Siena University for Foreigners."
This colloquium is designed to share the latest trends in Korean studies research and education in Europe and seek the globalization of Korean studies through specific examples of Siena University for Foreigners. Professor Jeong Imsuk delivered the presentation regarding how to establish a Korean studies research center in Siena and promote various international cooperation projects as well as how to operate Korean language programs and Korean literature courses at Siena University for foreigners .
The presentation aims to introduce a wide range of educational programs, including the history of opening Korean studies courses in Italy, the current status of academic and master's courses, translation practice, and high school Korean demonstration courses. In addition, specific achievements were shared, including cooperation projects with the Korea Foundation (KF) for international exchange and academic conferences, publishing books through translation, and student exchanges between both countries.
In the discussion, research professor Lee Seung Jae praised Siena University's short-term achievements and positively mentioned the systematic curriculum, active international exchange, and expansion of the research base. At the same time, he emphasized the need for expanding the scope of academic knowledge into social science fields such as politics, economy, and international relations, pointing out the current focus of Korean studies in Italy on language and literature. In addition, he proposed specific development measures such as securing faculty and research personnel and using K-MOOC, and expanding future cooperation with Inha University.
The K-Academic Diffusion Research Center of ICIS plans to further expand exchanges with Korean studies research institutes in Europe and promote various cooperation programs such as joint research, student exchanges, and workshops.
