[Inha CIS] Regional Integration between Conflict and Identity

On June 29th, the Inha Center for International Studies, in collaboration with the Institute of Political Science at the University of Jena and the Graduate School for Area Studies at Yonsei University, successfully hosted an international academic conference titled 'Regional Integration between Conflict and Identity' at the University of Jena, Germany. The conference, supported by the Academy of Korean Studies, featured two main sessions, offering participants a platform for diverse presentations and discussions.
The first session focused on 'Identity Politics'. Jean-Young Lee, Director of the Inha Center for International Studies, presented on 'Online Education of Korean Studies: Focusing on Identity Politics and Public Diplomacy'. Linda Nolte, a doctoral candidate at the University of Jena, discussed 'European Integration in Times of Crises: War, (Eastern) Enlargement, and Solidarity.' Prof. Seongjin Kim from Duksung Women’s University presented on 'Identity Compromised: Korean Uzbeks in Kwangju.'
The second session, themed 'Security Politics,' addressed various issues related to international security. Ani Yeghiazaryan, a doctoral candidate at the University of Jena, presented on 'The Security Challenges of Armenia on its European Path'. Prof. Dmytro Yefremov from Kyiv-Mohyla Academy discussed 'The Chinese Stance on the War in Ukraine: Strategic Image Crafting or Pragmatic Realpolitik?'. Lastly, Prof. Sangtu Ko from Yonsei University presented on 'Why is Strong South Korea Concerned about Weak North Korea's Collaboration with Russia: Revisiting the Balance of Threat Theory.'
This international conference provided an opportunity for researchers from diverse backgrounds and expertise to engage in meaningful discussions on critical issues in contemporary society. The event facilitated a deeper understanding of regional integration, identity, and security issues.
The Inha Center for International Studies will continue engaging in international cooperation and academic exchange, addressing global issues in depth and conducting research that contributes to both academia and society.
